“The public Parks are the lungs that fill a city. Lynchburg possesses eighty-eight acres of public parks that recreate her toil-worn citizens, and vitalize them with the pure and balmy breath of nature's reservoir of health." The News, 1900

Lynchburg’s public parks encompass over 800 acres of land, from neighborhood parks to the amazing natural riches of the Blackwater Creek Natural Area. The beauty of Lynchburg’s parks is buoyed by the passionate devotion to active recreation that has energized our community from the very earliest days.

Today our community enjoys recreational programs in arts, athletics, wellness and natural heritage programs. We serve children, families and those aged 50 plus. Recreation programs challenge our minds and bodies, express our creativity and form new bonds between our participants. We hope you will join us in exploring new opportunities as we work to serve our community and work to fulfill our mission...

The Lynchburg Parksand Recreation Department contributes to a healthy, active and educated community; providing stewardship and management of parklands, trails and civic facilities and creating opportunities for all people to participate in a rich variety of recreational activities.
